Motorcycles and motoculteurs are often confused, as both are used to work the land. Yet they are not used on the same grounds. Choosing the wrong tool is either exhausting itself on a hard ground, or paying a machine too heavy for a small vegetable garden. Here’s how to make a difference.

The motorbiker: to maintain a vegetable garden
On a motorcycle, it is the strawberries that turn and pull the machine forward. You guide her by holding her more or less. It is ideal to improve the soil before planting, weed between rows or incorporate compost.
The electric models are light and easy to handle. The ELEM GARDEN 1050 W works 36 cm wide, which is enough for a small vegetable garden or plates-bandes. Their limit: a very compact earth or never worked. In this case, strawberries bounce rather than penetrate, and work becomes difficult.
The motoculturer: for demanding terrains
On a cultivator, drive wheels push the machine forward, and the strawberries work behind or between them. You control speed and depth much easier, even on hard ground.
The 212 cm3 ST PIERRE DU CHAMP This is a good example: 4.4 kW petrol engine, 2 front and 1 rear speeds, large agrarian wheels of 415 mm and 6 strawberries to work 80 to 110 cm wide, up to 30 cm deep. He also accepts a button to form the furrows.
In between, the SAKAWA 7 CV is a 69 kg thermal machine that works 50 to 85 cm wide: a good compromise for a vegetable garden of several hundred square meters.
Electric or thermal?
- Electrical : light, quiet, without engine maintenance or fuel. The cable limits the distance to a socket. Ideal up to about 200 m2 of garden.
- Thermal : more powerful, autonomous, suitable for large terrains and heavy soils. Request maintenance (oil, candle, filter).
How to choose
- Small vegetable garden already cultivated, plates-bandes : electric moped from 36 to 45 cm.
- Medium vegetable garden, soft soil : electric motorcycle of 1 500 W or light thermal.
- Large vegetable garden, heavy land or land to be cleared : motorized thermal motoculturer.

It’s not recommended. On a grassy and compact floor, an electric motorcycle is scarce. A thermal motoculturer or a first pass to the spade is more suitable.
